Sometimes we get Yes Card requests that say something simple like “winter hat.” So easy; we’re happy to hand the teacher a gift card to keep little ears warm. 

But behind every hat is a story about a real kid, and we want to share one Yes Card story from a Promise K teacher whose simple request was “winter hat.”

One of my students came back after break with a new Spiderman beanie that he loved. He wore it to all recesses and you can tell it was really special to him.

But the hat disappeared, just as the weather turned colder. 

Every day he came in asking if I found the Spiderman hat and his face would drop when I told him no; even his older sister would come to the class and ask about the hat. 

He needed a new winter hat, but this teacher understood that showing him she cared meant just as much. So with Yes Card in hand, she found the same Spiderman beanie.
