For hundreds of Sehome students, The Cove offers more than a quiet place to study.

When budget cuts threatened staffing hours at Sehome High School’s after-school learning center, known as The Cove, the loss would have meant more than fewer hours of access.

A sophomore struggling with math could lose the peer tutor he relied on. A student dealing with a difficult home life could lose a safe place to spend the afternoon. Another student might lose access to the one trusted adult in the building they knew they could turn to.

Your gifts help keep The Cove staffed, ensuring students have access to the resources – and relationships – they need after the bell.

“The Cove is welcoming, warm, and intentional,” says Cove staffer Michel Mason.

During busy weeks, nearly 300 students may use the space to meet with a tutor, finish an assignment, decompress after a stressful class, or simply find a quiet place to study while waiting for a ride home.

Mason’s steady presence is a big part of what makes that possible. She knows her students, understands what they need, and builds the trust that allows her to set boundaries while making room for flexibility.

Those kinds of relationships don’t happen by accident. It takes dedicated educators who can be there consistently, day after day.
